DR. TARA LANTZ BSc ND
Dr. Tara Lantz, BSc ND is a professional member in good standing with the Nova Scotia Association of Naturopathic Doctors (NSAND), the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), and is licensed through the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta (CNDA).
Dr. Lantz received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in Vancouver, B.C (2011), and holds a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry (summa cum laude, 2003) from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. She has additional training Bowen Technique bodywork and craniosacral therapy.
Dr. Lantz’s approach to care is grounded, practical, and focused on helping patients feel better in a way that is sustainable.
Many of her patients seek care feeling frustrated — they’ve been dealing with ongoing symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, sleep issues, digestive concerns, or just not feeling like themselves, and haven’t found clear answers or lasting improvement.
She places a strong emphasis on listening and understanding each patient’s experience, ensuring concerns are fully explored and addressed.
Dr. Lantz takes an evidence-based approach to care, using a thorough health history, symptom patterns, and appropriate lab work to understand what may be contributing to a patient’s symptoms.
Treatment focuses on foundational health — including sleep, nutrition, and stress regulation — with an emphasis on preventative care and supporting overall health and wellbeing.
Her clinical focus includes mental health (including stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout), sleep concerns, digestive health, women’s health, hormonal concerns, and chronic pain. She incorporates hands-on bodywork where appropriate for pain and physical symptoms.
Dr. Lantz works collaboratively with other health professionals and provides care as part of an integrative approach alongside existing medical care and referring to other providers when appropriate as part of a comprehensive physical, mental, and emotional-health treatment plan.
Her goal is to provide clear, practical guidance and support patients in making changes that are realistic and sustainable.
Care is individualized, and treatment plans are designed to fit each patient’s life — not the other way around.
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Lantz is a naturopathic doctor with over a decade and a half of clinical experience, practising in Nova Scotia since 2013, after beginning her practice in Vancouver, BC.
While now based in Halifax, she’s worked with patients in-person across the province, including in Yarmouth, Mahone Bay and the South Shore, and East Hants, and has an understanding of the unique challenges facing rural Nova Scotians.
Her work is grounded in one of the core principles of naturopathic medicine — Docere, or “doctor as teacher.” She believes that helping patients understand their body, and the “why” behind their symptoms and treatment plans, is an essential part of care.
Dr. Lantz takes a thoughtful, individualized approach, working collaboratively with patients to build practical, sustainable strategies to support wellbeing.
In addition to her clinical practice, she is actively involved in advancing the profession. She currently serves as Chair of the Nova Scotia Association of Naturopathic Doctors (NSAND), following years of service on the national board with the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND).
Originally from the West Coast, Dr. Lantz has strong family ties to Nova Scotia and has called the East Coast home for over 25 years.
Dr. Lantz aims to work collaboratively with other health professionals to bridge the gap between standard medical care and complementary medicine, helping support lasting improvements in health.
Principles of Naturopathic Medicine
First, do no harm
Care emphasizes safe, evidence-based treatment, using the least invasive options first while supporting the body’s ability to restore balance.
Education - doctor as teacher
Doctor, docere, means “to teach.” Dr. Lantz emphasizes patient education, helping you understand your health, your treatment options, and the reasoning behind each recommendation.
The healing power of nature
Your body has a natural ability to heal and restore balance. Care focuses on supporting this process by strengthening foundational health, addressing what may be out of balance, and removing obstacles that may be getting in the way.
Treat the whole person
An integrative approach recognizes that each patient requires individualized care — what works for one person may not work for another. Naturopathic medicine considers all aspects of health, including physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
Identify and treat the cause
Care focuses on understanding the underlying factors driving your symptoms — using your health history, patterns over time, and appropriate lab work — to guide treatment. The goal is to address these underlying factors while supporting symptom relief.
Prevention
Naturopathic medicine emphasizes prevention by supporting overall health and addressing concerns early — helping reduce the risk of chronic illness over time.
